That’s the day I realized I had never really known what love was.
These waffles probably qualify as my favorite food. If they aren’t my favorite, they are pretty high up there.
I remember the first time I discovered the magic of liege waffles.
Famous Julie, my dad and I were walking around a farmer’s market, and Famous Julie spotted a vendor selling waffles. Knowing of my deep love for waffles, she turned to me and asked if I wanted one.
Now here is where the story gets crazy.
I told her NO.
- 1 tablespoon dry yeast
- 1/4 cup lukewarm water
- 1/2 cup lukewarm milk
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 bag Belgian pearl sugar (about 8 oz.)
- Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. Gradually add all ingredients to the flour, except the pearl sugar. Let dough rise until it doubles in size (about 45 minutes) Add belgian pearl sugar. Divide dough into small patties about 3 to 4 ounces each. Bake in heated and greased waffle iron.
Famous Julie bought this pearl sugar online for me for my birthday.
She loves me so much.
